GCA reveals focus on flexibility trends and cross-sector talent acquisition

With a strong emphasis on providing actionable insights, GCA uses these findings to help businesses navigate talent shortages and refine their recruitment strategies

Glen Callum Associates (GCA), a specialist recruitment agency in the automotive aftermarket, has published its Q4 2024 report, showcasing key insights into the sector’s evolving recruitment trends, including a shift towards remote working, increasing reliance on allied sectors to fill skill gaps, and a sustained focus on sales, marketing and operational roles.

With a strong emphasis on providing actionable insights, GCA uses these findings to help businesses navigate talent shortages and refine their recruitment strategies.

Q4 saw 53 percent of roles filled as remote positions, with office-based placements at 35 percent and hybrid roles accounting for 12 percent. This indicates a continued preference for flexible work arrangements, helping businesses attract talent across demographics.

83 percent of placements were within the automotive industry itself, while 17 percent came from allied sectors. Notably, 59 percent of candidates placed were from allied industries, reflecting the growing acceptance of skills-based hiring to bridge gaps in the talent pool – a strategy GCA has continually encouraged Hiring Managers to adopt.

Kerrie Richards, Director of GCA, said: “Businesses are increasingly open to transferable skills, allowing them to benefit from fresh perspectives and innovative thinking. This approach not only addresses skills shortages but also helps diversify workforces.”

The Midlands emerged as the most popular job location in Q4, highlighting the region’s ongoing importance as a hub for the automotive aftermarket.

In terms of roles, Sales, Marketing and Operations dominated recruitment, representing 84 percent of total placements. Senior executive roles made up 11 percent, while five percent were technical positions. 12 percent of placements were executive roles, showcasing businesses’ commitment to bolstering leadership as they prepare for growth in 2025.

Glen Shepherd, Director of GCA, added: “The data reinforces the need for companies to adapt their hiring strategies. Flexible working, skills-based hiring and focusing on transferable skills from allied sectors are key to ensuring business sustainability in the evolving landscape.

“By combining these strategies with data-driven insights, we can help businesses make more informed and effective hiring decisions. At GCA, we remain committed to helping businesses understand these trends and connect with top talent to secure their future.”
