Valeo celebrates Wolverhampton College’s triumph with training day

The rigorous event challenged the students across a variety of disciplines, including workshop-based practical tasks

Valeo Service UK recently welcomed students from Wolverhampton College to its headquarters in Redditch, celebrating their success in the prestigious Technicians Trophy event.

The competition, held at Wolverhampton College, brought together teams from Wolverhampton College, Heart of Worcester College, and South and City College, with each entering two teams of four technicians.

The rigorous event challenged the students across a variety of disciplines, including workshop-based practical tasks, health and safety exercises, an automotive knowledge quiz, and a driving skills challenge featuring a timed simulator lap.

“Wolverhampton College students did incredibly well to take home the win at the Technicians Trophy,” said Stewart Lynch, Technical Trainer at Valeo Service UK. “They really showed their skills and teamwork throughout the competition, and we were only too pleased to later welcome them here at Valeo as a reward.”

The visit to Valeo Service UK included two comprehensive training sessions to enhance the students’ technical know-how. The first session focused on an introduction to high voltage vehicles, covering essential health and safety protocols alongside key system components such as main system relays. Students gained hands-on experience using multimeters and oscilloscopes to troubleshoot these complex systems.

The second session provided an in-depth look at Dual Clutch Transmissions (DCT). Students participated in the replacement of a Dual Dry Clutch on a Kia/Hyundai 7-Speed DCT, followed by actuator calibration and electrical circuitry testing.

“The training sessions gave them a fantastic opportunity to get hands-on with some of the latest automotive technologies,” said Stewart. “It’s one thing to learn theory at college, but working on the parts with tools really brings their skills to life. We’re pleased to be able to offer the kind of practical experience that helps prepare them for the challenges they’ll face in the workshop.”
